our trip to Williamsburg, Virginia

If the Moon Fell Down by Chase Coy on Grooveshark

Our time here in Virginia is coming to a close..
We have split our time between the DC area & the Richmond area for the last 7'ish weeks.. soaking up what all these places have to offer. Our latest venture included Williamsburg and it didn't disappoint, just kinda wishing we would have stayed there a little longer..

Me & Lexi have one more stop (to my hometown for my best friends wedding) before we will actually be home in Idaho but Tyson has to get back for his FINAL semester!!
It is sooo exciting to finally say he just has ONE more til he graduates this December!!

Williamsburg included:
Taking turns sitting in the car with diggy while we hit up the outlets since our hotel wouldn't let us check in before 4..
having a day of 30% chance of rain turn into a 99.9% chance- running through puddles and pouring rain and remembering how much my hair & humidity hate each other
checking out merchants square and falling in love with that cute little town
making a late night dessert run, which turned into ordering a Chili's to-go molten lava cake and eating outside of a souvenir shop on picnic tables.. nights like this make me love my little family and having these little vacations in my life!
ending our trip with a day at Busch Gardens

i think the rain that day just added a little extra character
and made everything look so green and flourish!!

nothing sexier than,
your husband going and getting the car for you when it's pouring down rain!
lexi's firehouse subs hat came in handy that day

so we weren't really sure which little activity would be best for a 2 years old, apparently there about a million things to do in Williamsburg including all of the historical things, Water Country, Busch Gardens, and the beach that is only an hour away.. But, we decided to go with Busch Gardens. We wanted something that Lexi wouldn't get too burned out on.. we figured historical sites wouldn't be the best option to hold a 2 year old attention span.. and when we discovered that Busch Gardens had a pet center where they will watch your pets - that sealed the deal!
Our first stop was to drop off Diggy, and to think just 3 years ago.. when he was my only baby.. i might have had a little bit of anxiety dropping him off there. But, he was perfectly fine, it was clean, they had fans.. and it was so nice that they even had a place for your pets!!
big plus for travelers!

Next stop was to find food - since it was going on noon and none of us had eaten a thing.. we landed at Das Festhaus - which happened to be the perfect place for lunch - it was indoors with AC and a show was starting ten minutes after we walked in.. which Lexi loved! After that show - we decided the shows were most likely going to be her biggest hi-lites so we saw Entwined, Pet Shenanigans, and Celtic Fyre. We also did some rides that allowed an adult on with her.. she is not quite at the age to be comfortable enough with out mom or dad.. she loved all of it though! loves that she is holding onto his finger

Lexi's dress: gap outlet

we spent a good five hours there and lexi was out the entire way back to Richmond,
including Diggy.. who made a bed out of my purse on the floorboards.

Friday's Film {DIY Backyard Teepee}

I've been obsessing with how cute teepees are!
Have you noticed the one in Kourtney Kardashians living room?
if you haven't.. it's adorable!
I couldn't find an image
but this image below would be the cutest little playroom for lexi!!
love the alphabet lining the walls!

Organize & Store Images on your Computer

I touched this topic a little here...
But, I am going to give a play by play on my exact routine
since I hear people asking questions about this topic often!

ok, so i'll give my
tip for non mac users first..
but this WILL APPLY for everyone.

Ok, so I have a love/hate relationship with photobucket lately.. I have ALWAYS used photobucket for my images on the blog.. I would HIGHLY suggest you UPGRADING your account- if you don't your pictures will look... kinda crappy! super pixely and ya, ugly.  Ok, so an upgrade is worth it in my book! I have been having problems with my images for the past 6 months not coming across the same exact color as i see them on my screen. Which can be super frustrating to me.. but keep in mind i have an OCD mindset with photos and the way they look.. and EACH computer screen is calibrated differently and each person sees ONE images about dozen different ways.. possibly, a photographers nightmare!! mine at least.

However, I honestly don't have a better option right now.. so I have to go back in on photobucket and manually bump up the color.. it's like it automatically saturates some/most of my images.

So - back to my point -
Photobucket - you upload into albums- I do mine by years.
And then you copy & paste the html code into my blog post - on the HTML side.

SO this has been my ONLINE STORAGE solution for all of my photos.

Now, when I am not using my nice camera I am using my iphone.
Thus, two places I need to grab photos from..

I really do not like to use my iphone pictures on this blog-
but i do however use them on our personal blog.

PHOTOBUCKET has a phone app - you just download it- and you can go into the setting and change it to automatically upload your images as you take them - or you can have the option to go in and pick the ones you want to upload- which is the method i choose.
i also make sure to make a new album called iphone (a one time thing)-
and send them to that one! This works so nicely for VIDEOS as well!! 96% of my videos come from my iphone!
SUPERRRRR EASY! and SUPER effortless!

So now for blogging purposes -
You have 1 SITE, to go to
For 2 DIFFERENT sources where your images were taken.

I also had another photographer friend post on facebook: "photographer friends:
what are your recommendations for smaller cameras
with a flash to take along places conveniently?"

my personal opinion:
I can't do any other.. I tried it once and got too annoyed
with lack of quality so I lug my beast around with me
when I know I am going to want pictures..
Everything else is taken on my iphone 4s.

Now, for my method on my laptop,
from the moment I plug in my card reader.

Yes, i DO NOT plug any cords into my laptop-
such a lifesaver on my time & battery life.
Step 1: plug in card reader with my sim card

Step 2:
(i take a lot of pictures- not always ones i need)
So i pull the images that are on my sim card-
straight to my preview program on my mac.

(do this by dragging)

NOW, i have a chance to view them Big.

Step 3:
make a new folder on my desktop & name it with the date I am uploading
(Aug 22 upload) make sure when you have your preview program up
you can still see your folder on your desktop- (makes dragging easier)

Step 4:
go back to the Preview program and DRAG the images i like,
over into the folder i just made (Aug 22 upload)

NOW, they are on my computer. and organized.

I do all deleting of images on my sim card in my camera-
I will "reformat card" once I know that EVERYTHING
on that sim card is on my computer and no longer needed.
because it will be deleted forever!

Step 5:
Drag that (Aug 22 upload) Folder into my August folder
which is under my 2012 folder
{2012}-{August}-{August 22 upload}
so things are kept organized.

my 5 cents on iPhoto
so iPhoto is nice..
but it duplicates the crap out of your images.. anytime you move it somewhere
you will eventually have like 5 of the same image all over the place and it gets hard to keep track of which one you actually need to keep.
all together, I try not to work in iPhoto-
I only use it when I am organizing and weeding out images in sessions-
I like that i can easily go through and delete, move into certain orders, edit simple things when working with RAW images, etc...
I also like that I can export and give all my images in a folder a certain name,
like "BKWedding" with sequential numbers following.. but i DELETE all images on iPhoto - under the Photos Tab & right after that I delete everything in the Trash Can
ONLY after I export them to a folder on my desktop and I know i have the copy i need.

{Tuesday's Look} Indian Reservation

Beautiful by Phil Wickham on Grooveshark

Indian, Navajo, Tribal... yes, please.
I'm kinda diggin this look and it's something that you cant start wearing now.. and all the way into fall! I did a sort of Leather & Lace - Indian Reservation inspired post a while ago.. but I didn't quite kick it in one post so I figred I'd come back and give you more outfit options.. and of course I couldn't leave out my mini me!

Look for fringe, feathers, and browse the minnetonkas in your local stores and i'm sure you can pull together your own tribal interpretation! Keep it to 2 "tribal" accents, to not over do it!

if i had one wish...

if i had one wish..

I would have Iris & Light shoot us our own little family music video

Go Do from IRIS AND LIGHT on Vimeo.

I would have an endless amount of storage on my laptop & sim cards!
I had to fork over another $100 to fix my broken external hard drive..
why is EVERYTHING soo soo expensive!!

I would have a big house with high ceiling, white walls, lots of windows,
and organized spaces and my own photography studio inside

My husband wouldn't work and we would travel the world with our little family,
trying new foods, dipping our feet in new waters, and exploring countrysides...
and of course we would have one of those magic trees where money falls often

Any flight to anywhere would only be one short hour and it wouldn't cost a fortune.

I would already have a hardbound book filled with journal entries of the memories
we've made and that i have been blogging about for the past six years.
